Honoring Carolyn's Legacy

Visiting the McLane boardwalk
Carolyn loved wild places and the plants and critters that call them home. She loved big, powerful animals like grizzlies and wolverines. She loved delicate birds - hosting a cafeteria-sized smorgasbord for them on her back deck and rescuing unfortunate prey from the jaws of clever cats.

As a lifelong educator, Carolyn knew that great learning begins with a love for reading. Her passion for children's literature was evident in her much loved summer children's lit course at Evergreen, her work with the Timberland Regional Library System and her pride in taking John Paul to get his first library card.

Her contributions as a teacher, environmentalist and community activist will continue to be felt for many years by the people, animals and places she called "friend."

Carolyn loved flowers dearly, and she would probably encourage you to honor her by visiting flowers in their natural environment in your state and national parks (just don't pick them!) - and especially the beautiful meadows of Paradise at Mt. Rainier National Park. If you would like to make a financial contribution in Carolyn's honor, her family suggests one of the following:

Vital Ground Foundation for preservation of wildlife habitat in the North Cascades
Washington's National Park Fund for the Carolyn Dobbs Environmental Science Grant
Your local library system for their children's literature and programs
